What is a credit and why is it so important?
Credits determine:

ENGLISH

Language Arts 8 H English 1 Honors
(CFHS recommends that students who earn a final grade of a B or higher in Language Arts 8 H take English 1 Honors in 9th grade.)
English 1 Honors English 2 Honors
(CFHS recommends that students who earn a final grade of a B or higher in English 1 Honors take English 2 Honors in 9th grade. Students who pass English 1 Honors, but do not earn at least a B will be recommended for English 2 or may be recommended to retake English 1 Honors.)
SCIENCE

Science 8 H
Science 8 H Biology Honors
(Students who are enrolled in Science 8 Honors and Geometry Honors have a final grade in both Math and Science classes of a B or higher are recommended to take Biology Honors.)
Science 8 H AP Environmental Science
(Students who earn at least an 85% or higher in Science 8 H AND Geometry Honors are eligible to take AP (Advanced Placement) Environmental Science in 9th grade. AP Environmental Science is a year-long course that counts as 1 elective credit (Semester 1) and 1 lab science credit (Semester 2). Please note that Biology is a graduation requirement so students will be required to take it in subsequent years.)
SOCIAL STUDIES
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, taking a Social Studies course is not required in 9th grade.
Students who choose to take one of the Social Studies courses offered to 9th graders will earn an Elective credit.
The 3 required Social Studies credits required for graduation will be taken in 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

(Students who earn an 85% or higher in Social Studies 8 H AND English 1 Honors are eligible to take AP (Advanced Placement) Human Geography in 9th grade. AP Human Geography is a year-long course that counts as 2 elective credits.)

Geometry with Statistics

Geometry with Statistics Honors
Students are eligible to take Geometry with Statistics Honors after Math 8 if they meet 2 out of the 3 criteria:

(CFHS recommends that students who earn a final grade of an 85% or higher in Geometry Honors take Algebra 1 Honors in 9th grade.)
Geometry Honors Algebra 1
(CFHS recommends that students who earn a final grade below an 85% in Geometry Honors take Algebra 1 at the CP or College Prep level in 9th grade.)
Important note: Students who do not pass Geometry Honors with a 60% or higher in 8th grade or opt to retake Geometry Honors for a higher grade should select Geometry Honors for their 9th grade math course.
