MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING RESOURCE GUIDE

Why Do We Have These Resources?

We recognize that there are a variety of stressors that can affect your well-being while working and volunteering with AHAH. Our aim is to provide you with the means to proactively care for yourself and access mental health support whenever you may need it.

Your mental health is an essential part of your wellbeing. Looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health.

The Options Available to You

I.F.O.C (International Fellowship Of Chaplains) Chaplains provide secular, practical community support to All Hands and Hearts personnel by meeting their needs, regardless of age, race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, marital status or socioeconomic status. Trained and licensed Chaplains offer counsel, education, advocacy, and life improvement skills to support those serving disaster impacted communities.

ON CALL International The counselors you can access through On Call are mental or behavioral health professionals who are also trained in crisis management. Counselors are available 24 hours a day for immediate evaluation and crisis intervention. Following the first call, if short-term counseling is recommended, the counselor will refer you for additional telephone or video counseling sessions. Your plan includes 3 counseling sessions, not including the first call.

ON CALL

How they can help:

From individual crises such as culture shock, acute trauma or assault, relationship issues, or stress, to a large-scale incident like a terrorist attack or natural disaster, a variety of circumstances can have a significant impact on your mental health. On Call

provides our teams with access to crisis intervention and short-term counseling services.

How to use this service:

Contact the On Call 24/7 Global Response Center via phone and request to speak with a counselor.

  • They will collect information such as your name, contact details, and date of birth. You can still speak with a counselor if you choose to remain anonymous by identifying yourself as traveling on behalf of All Hands and Hearts. You will then be connected to a counselor for a confidential call.

  • If the counselor recommends further counseling, or an assessment/care by a physician, they will work with On Call’s Global Response Center to advise you about next steps. Ongoing care may require transition to an in-person counselor.

NOTE: Tele-counseling is pre-diagnostic, the counselors will not diagnose or prescribe medications over the phone.

How they can help:

Chaplains are here to support our teams as they navigate their lives and make sense of circumstances that are emotionally challenging (i.e., emotions they experience from living in a disaster zone, personal challenges, etc).

How to use this service:

Email or text our POC at I.F.O.C, Blythe Fowler, to inform her that you are interested in speaking with a Chaplain on her team.

  • Blythe will follow-up requesting more information to help her connect you with a Chaplain best suited to address your specific needs.

  • Given current capacity, you should expect to connect with a chaplain within 48 hours of your original request. We recommend setting aside at least 30 minutes for your first conversation.

If the situation is urgent and you need to speak with someone immediately, please call our ON CALL service as soon as possible.

NOTE: Chaplains are not psychologists, and do not provide therapy or psychological services. They are not able to support in discussing or treating acute mental health issues that require the support of a therapist or psychologist.
