Senior +

What is Senior+ ?

Senior+ is a dispositive created by the municipality of Plœuc-L’Hermitage within the ORT in 2018.

​

The aim is to combat the isolation of elderly people in rural areas, and more particularly elderly people living far from the centre and unable to travel by car.

What activities?

Two weekly meetings are held for seniors.

On Tuesdays, they are invited to go shopping at the supermarket or participate in activities (board games, gentle exercise, etc.).

On Thursdays, they are invited to shop at the open local market.

After these meetings, a friendly coffee is offered.

For who ?

All seniors in Plœuc-L'Hermitage registered with the Social Action Center (all those over 76 years old) can participate in these activities.

The unique feature of this program is that a town hall employee can pick up isolated seniors who are unable to drive. Registration is required at the town hall. Eight seniors can thus be driven to the town center.

Additional actions

In addition, additional actions are carried out as part of this system. In order to continue to offer enhanced support, manual activities are planned, but also fairs are organized at the retirement home every year, and isolated seniors are invited to participate. Similarly, during COVID-19, volunteers were trained to visit isolated seniors and teach them how to use a tablet.

Why is it a good practice on cooperation ?

The idea for Senior+ didn't come from Plœuc-L'Hermitage... But from a Polish idea!

In 2018, during an exchange visit between Plœuc-L'Hermitage and Bartoszyce, municipal officials discovered this project and decided to replicate it in Plœuc-L'Hermitage.
