Sustainability Leadership Buy-in Deck

How to communicate the value of sustainability and secure buy-in with leadership

2 of 36

  • Pursuing Sustainability (from B Corp, Net Zero, ESG impact to anything in sustainability) is a hugely exciting journey.
  • However, it’s often immediately challenged by leadership as not being relevant for the business.
  • In many cases, selling in the idea that we must focus on ‘sustainability’ as a business objective can come across trivial.
  • “What is the ROI?” “Does it improve our bottom line?” … Financial value is rarely associated with business sustainability.
  • Rather, sustainability is often associated with CSR, having a Sustainability Manager and Planting Trees.
  • And that’s exactly why we made this deck:
  • Firstly to help you communicate what is Sustainability and why it’s a ‘must have’, not a ‘nice have’ for businesses in 2022.
  • Secondly to help you position B Corp as the first step in your sustainability journey.
  • Thirdly to provide your Leadership assurance that we at Futureproof can support you every step of the way.

Why did we make this deck?

  • You can download the deck by clicking File > Download > Choose a format.
  • The deck covers 5 sections and is written in a set structure that we’ve found has worked.
  • Use the content however you like. Present it from this deck, or take the content and make it into your own.
  • Some slides have speaker notes to provide more context (like slides 19-21).
  • Present it in a leadership meeting, small groups or even send around. Whatever feels best.
  • Any questions reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help shape the conversation with you.

Instead of achieving a 80-point threshold, companies will have to meet the specific areas of 10 areas of your business.

The new B Corp Assessment

What the new assessment means for businesses in 2023?

  1. Because the new assessment is harder, we recommend for all companies to certify on the current assessment.
  2. Any business wanting to certify on the today’s assessment will need to start ASAP to meet the 2024 cut off.
  3. Any existing B Corp will need to start planning for the new assessment requirements.

The Platform made it SO easy for us to work through our B Corp application diligently, swiftly, and as a team.  With time being so precious for us, it was amazing to be able to just dive into the platform, find a task, fill out a template and move on to the next one without it feeling a huge time drain. The way Futureproof puts together the reading, the tasks, and the instructions honestly couldn't have been better - you understood why you were doing a task, and the bigger picture it fit into without having to do endless research!

Their support throughout our B Corp submission process was invaluable - from the insights they gave about the process (honestly, it's so important to talk to someone who has done it before!) to the on-the-ground support they give at a task level. Genuinely, couldn't have done it without them! KATE HIGHAM,
