The Crews

Mariza’s Old Crew

Missing few in order: Rey, Al, Arthur

Varan: The captain of the ship, found Mariza at a young age and took her in and raised her as best he could. Essentially Mariza’s dad and mentor, taught her everything that he knew.

Ash: Guns/cannons, helps out Helena. Mariza’s other closest friend, as the two are… roughly the same age? Give or take? Her, Mariza, and Thomas were kind of a hellion trio.

Thomas: Main lookout, spindly man who keeps an eye on the horizon. One of Mariza’s main confidants along with Ash

Helena: Canon maintenance and use, could probably lift a canon above her head on her own honestly. Quiet and cool.

Rey: The cool older brother to Elaine’s older sister. He’s just vibing man. Could kick your ass.

Al: Maps/lore guy, knows a lot about a lot of things.

Elaine: Sword fighting master, the cool big sister

Patch: The crew’s cook, bit of an odd duck but he means well. Yes he mended all his clothes himself why do you ask?

Arthur: Quartermaster, makes sure everything is accounted for and that they have enough supplies to go around. Nice guy, good hugs.

• Delta is mer-pirate that she meets, falls in love

• Mariza tries to deal with perceived curse and powers, it’s messy

Ok Detail Time

Again, with clarity

• Mariza grew up on a pirate ship and generally they’re a happy crew. Basically family.
• Only good signs when everyone starts happy.
• Captain (Varan) calls Mariza in to discuss the details of their expedition to an island that few talk about and even fewer survive.
• Probably has treasure. Or a giant fuck off sea dragon but that’s probably just decoration.
• Indra (aforementioned fuck off sea dragon) attacks the ship, laying waste to everyone on board, leaving Mariza as the only survivor.
• She is, how you say, pissed.
• And she has a sword.
• She kills the dragon.

Clarity 2: Electric Boogaloo

• Mariza wakes up and oops her whole family is fucking dead.
• Hey look! Consequences! Wild.
• She wanders around for a while and tries to figure out what the fuck is going on rn
• Also Zib is in the background living their best life. Love that for them.
• Searches for answers and learns about Samira who proceeds to visit her in a dream
• Samira: Bitch do I look like I’ll help? Fuck you, you know what you did
• Mariza does not, in fact, know.
• Curse gets worse. Mariza now meets Delta so that’s a win.
• For now.

Mariza’s No Good Awful Very Bad Rest of the Animatic

• Her and Delta have various misadventures, with the bounty on Mariza’s head getting bigger with each passing day
• Turns out killing a sea goddess isn’t a great thing when there’s churches who worship the sea goddess. Wild.
• Mariza realizes that she’s losing control and accidentally hurts Delta. They separate.
• None of these idiots can deal with their problems.
• Also she keeps losing her arms
• Gets cornered by other pirates and oops the curse is fully taking hold now
• And Delta is here! Great!
• Saves Delta by breaking off her part of the ship and ascends
• Pokemon evolution lmao

Post Animatic Shit

• Mariza does not remember jack shit, only some vague details. Hence the whole complicated at best relationship with Delta.
• Samira eventually softens to Mariza and is her reluctant guardian.
• Some other gods might need replacing but that’s not Mariza’s problem

AKA It’s Tough to be a God

• Godhood is transferred from one being to another
• Usually doesn’t involve killing the previous god
• Usually done over a long period of time, that way people don’t notice that a god fucking died
• “Hey why’d the entire ocean go fucking batshit at once”
• Person usually loses parts of their mortal memories, can be more or less severe.
• Physical changes and cool thematic elements

Prayer! AKA How Delta Manages to Cope

Anyone can pray or invoke a god, however the sway this has on the god in question relies on not only their proximity to the god but their intent. After all, praying to Dahlia for rain won’t do jack shit.

• Know the proper names of the god, their epithets and their titles
• Be close to their domain
• Keep a clear mind and steady heart

Effect on the Gods

• Distant prayers have little to no impact. Like hearing your name in a busy room. More annoying than anything
• Prayers with more genuine intent compel more action and have more influence
• This led to a lot of infighting between the two main churches that worshiped Indra
• Gods can grant boons/prayers with no prompting but usually busy
• If there’s enough of a connection their divinity will compel them to comply though they can refuse in some cases
