  • The purpose of Advisory is to build a positive one on one relationship with a staff member, and a group of peers to work with.

  • Your advisor is your ‘Go To’ person at SMS.

Homework Policy

Homework is meant to be time for students to work on assessments, projects, or to finish classwork.

It allows for students to practice skills.

We will never assign busy-work!

Students must read for 30 minutes 5x/week

budgeted in the following manner:

Habits of Work and Learning (HoWL)

Teachers will report out on Habits of Work and Learning at least twice a quarter.

    • Academic Responsibility 1, 2, 3, 4
      • Preparation for class
      • Being a responsible learner

    • Social Responsibility 1, 2, 3, 4
      • Being a respectful community member

High Honors: all A’s and a “HoWL” score of 3 or better in all classes.

Honors: all B’s or better, and a “HoWL” score of 3 or better in all classes.

Extracurriculars: To participate, a student must maintain an average “HoWL” of 2.5

First Day of School

  • 6th grade advisors will be lined up outside the front door to meet our advisees. Look for a sign with your advisor’s name. We will walk to our advisory room together.

  • Be sure your student knows how they are getting home (bus #, pickup, etc) : dismissal starts at 3:00.
