The UC Libraries strive to negotiate with publishers for agreements that generally provide:

  • authors who have research funding are asked to pay remainder of the APC
  • full APC coverage if the author doesn’t have funding to pay the remaining APC

Campus Sub-brand Logos

This template was built for general use using the UC San Diego logo. For units wanting to use their unit-specific sub-brand logo, follow the steps and tips below.

  • PNG files work best, as they have a transparent background.
  • To update the logo on one of the cover designs, select the logo image and click Replace Image from the toolbar (or right click and choose Replace Image). To adjust the crop to fit the logo, click the Reset Image button (or right click the image and choose Reset Image).
  • Content slides, like this one, can be tight on space, making it harder to fit unit sub-brand logos legibly. We recommend keeping the main UC San Diego logo on these slides. If you need to update the page header logo, click on View/Theme Builder and select the theme slide. Follow the steps above for replacing the image.

Fonts

  • This Template uses Teko and Source Sans 3 (previously called Sources Sans Pro). Both are approved brand fonts available for free. Teko can be downloaded via Fontshare. Source Sans 3 can be downloaded via Google Fonts.
  • Font files have also been included in the Zip file for this template for convenience.
  • Be sure to install the needed fonts before using this template.
  • When pasting in content from other sources, use Paste without formatting to prevent unintended style and font changes.

Google Slides vs PowerPoint vs Keynote

  • File conversion between Keynote, PowerPoint or Google Slides can result in distortion of formatting and graphics. For this reason, we recommend creating your presentation in the platform that will be used for presenting.
  • If you need to distribute a PowerPoint file through Google Drive, zip/compress the file before it is uploaded so that the recipients must download the file to their computer and use PowerPoint to open it. If a PowerPoint file is opened in Google Drive, it will automatically be converted to Google Slides.
  • When routing to stakeholders for review, consider saving the file as a PDF to prevent edits that could introduce formatting issues.
