Welcome, Edgar Martin Middle School Families!

Here at Edgar Martin Middle School, our students are just as capable as any students across the US. Every day, we are committed to ensuring that our students have the opportunity to grow and thrive so they can reach their potential. To do this, we need a plan in place to ensure every teacher is prepared to provide every student what they need to be successful.

Our Vision

It is the vision of the Edgar Martin Middle School staff, students, parents, and community members to encourage each student to succeed at the level that meets or exceeds their academic ability. Throughout the year, all stakeholders actively participate in health, wellness, and academic aspects in order to better meet this vision.

Our Mission

The mission of the Edgar Martin Middle School staff, students, parents, and community members is to achieve academic success, maintain high standards and show school spirit. The mission is reinforced daily when the entire school recites the Ram Rap. It states, "As an Edgar Martin Ram, I pledge to be Responsible for my actions, to Always be safe, to Maintain a positive attitude, and to Show school spirit! Rams are Responsible, Attentive, Motivated, and Successful.

Creating a Plan for School Improvement

Therefore, as required by state and federal laws and regulations, we submitted a plan to the Lafayette Parish School System in the fall of 2023 to support our school’s improvement.

The key components of our plan that will lead to school improvement include:

  • High quality curriculum and assessments in all grades
  • High quality professional development for all teachers
  • Building school-based expertise through leadership roles (Content Leaders, Literacy Coaches, Mentor Teachers)
  • A Professional Development Plan to ensure teachers are preparing for units and building content knowledge
  • A plan for engaging families and the community to support our goals.

How have we prepared students to master grade-level content?

Interruptions throughout the 2020-21 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic may have adversely impacted student results. Such interruptions should be considered when comparing results across sites or when making comparisons to results from prior years.

Working Together for School Improvement

14

We are committed to providing families with meaningful, two-way communication about Edgar Martin Middle School’s plan and your child’s academic progress throughout the year.

Here are ways we can partner to meet our plan’s goals:

  • Communicate with us: Contact your child’s teacher or principal with questions about your child’s progress, learning needs, or school events/programs through school communications.
  • Regularly Check: Parent Portal for attendance, grades, and discipline information; your child’s Google Classroom for assignments; voice, email and text messages from your child’s school and LPSS
  • Support learning at home: Visit the LPSS Parent and Family Resource Center from 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, or attend an upcoming Family University to learn more about supporting your child’s learning at home.
  • Ensure: Your child attends school regularly and on time to maximize instructional time as well as requirements for promotion.
