What is Google Chrome?

  • is a free web browser developed by Google. (Wikipedia, 2013)
    • Chrome offers the ability to add apps & extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

  • Why Chrome?
    • once you log into your chrome account your apps & extension are available on any computer.
      • So the Chrome apps that a student uses at school, can be used at home.

Apps & Extensions

Apps:

    • basically a program that runs within� your browser (i.e. gmail, google docs)
    • Advantages:
      • in Chrome, the appear on your homepage as icons
      • always available & update automatically

Extensions:

    • appear to the right of your address bar
    • allow you to have easy access to programs without having to open up a new tab
    • Advantages:
      • You can do things in less clicks

Chrome Tips...

  • you can type in a search from the address bar (called the omnibox)

  • utilizes tabs along the top of the browser
    • each New Tab - brings you to your homepage of your top viewed sites or apps

  • Bookmarks - once logged in they sync to your Google Account

Multiple Accounts

  • You can setup your Google Chrome Browser to let you access multiple Google accounts.
    • Advantages:
      • You don't need to open different browsers to access different accounts.

Getting Started

  1. Make sure you have a Google Account
    1. Everyone in the NESD has an account
      1. (**you have to have logged into your Google Apps account before you can log into Chrome using this account)�
  2. Make sure that your computer has Google Chrome
    • All NESD computers should have Chrome already installed.
    • Install Google Chrome if you don't �
  3. Open Google Chrome and sign in using your Google Apps account.
  4. Add apps & extensions from the web store.

Remember

It’s not about the �TOOL� it’s about how you use

the tools that you have!

  • There are many devices, apps & extensions but remember it is about the people using the tools and the learning goals :)
    • There are many ways to use an app, be CREATIVE.

Removing Apps & Extensions

To Remove an App:

- Right Click

- select remove from chrome

To Remove an Extension:

- Go to Settings

- delete
