Course Overview

The Essentials of Healthcare is a medical-focused anatomy course addressing the physiology of each body system, along with the investigation of common diseases, disorders and emerging diseases.

Academic dishonesty will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances. Cheating, copying, or plagiarism of any form will result in failure of the assignment, disciplinary referral, and parent contact.

Grades are based on daily assignments, participation, formative and summative assessments. Exams will be given at the end of each semester and will count 20% of the semester grade. The average of the two 9 weeks will count as 80% of the final semester grade.

Credit Information:

Students who earn one unit of credit for the Essentials of Healthcare course will receive one unit of credit for Human Anatomy and Physiology. The Essentials of Healthcare course meets the fourth science requirement for high school graduation and for admission to the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia. The same course grade assigned to the Essentials of Healthcare will be assigned to the Human Anatomy and Physiology course.

A: 90-100

B: 80-89

C: 70-79

F: 69 and below

Behavior:

We are practicing to enter the real work world as a health professional and must model this competency. I will adhere to the progressive discipline procedures outlined in the Code of Student Conduct at Lee County High School for inappropriate behavior.

Late Work Policy:

Late work will not be accepted for full credit. Late is any time after the assignment is collected by the teacher. Work turned in after the deadline will result in a loss of 10 points per day for up to three days. Except for extenuating circumstances, work will not be accepted more than three days after the due date.

Make-up Work Policy:

Students are responsible for obtaining work they miss due to absences. Students have the same number of class days missed to complete work and turn in the following class period. Exams missed are to be taken outside of class time within the make-up period at the convenience of the teacher. Pre-announced exams will be taken when the student returns to school after being absent unless other arrangements are made at the teacher’s discretion. Extension of this limit may be arranged between student and teacher in certain circumstances.
