Information & Guidelines

Registration & Payment for Driver’s Education

Registration for Driver’s Education class is open to MFL MarMac students in grades 8-12. Seats in the class are limited so the class will be filled on an oldest to youngest basis until the class capacity or deadline has been met. An email to sign-up is sent out to all 8-12th grade students in early January. A student is not considered “registered” for this class until all of the items below are received. Late registrations will not be accepted.

  1. The attached Parent Consent Form (signed and dated by both parent/guardian and student participant).
  2. Photocopy of the student participant’s driver’s permit. (You may request to have a copy made at the school office.) If student is still 13 years of age and hasn’t gotten their learner’s permit, they may still take the class, but MUST have their permit and completed 20 hrs of practice BEFORE they can drive with an instructor.
  3. $275 paid at the District Business Office in Monona or the Middle School Office (checks made payable to MFL MarMac Schools)

All of the above items should be turned into the HS or MS office by the last Friday in February.

Classroom Requirements

  • Students must attend 30 hours of classroom instruction. Classes are held for 3-4 weeks via Zoom from 7-9pm during the month of March. Classes will be held March 2, 5, 9, 10, 16 & 23.
  • If the student misses more than two classes, they will be dropped from the class and money will not be refunded. There are no exceptions. Students must attend classes regularly and attendance will be kept!

Driving Requirements

  • Before driving with an instructor, students must log 20 hours of driving with a parent or guardian. This log can be kept in any notebook. Included with the date for each driving session logged, the student must include the number of hours or minutes driven, where they drove and a parent/guardian signature. This log must be turned in on or before your first driving session with your instructor.
  • Throughout the course, students will drive for 6 hours with their assigned instructor. Students will be grouped with 1-2 other students and driving times will be assigned after the first 3 weeks of class.
  • Pick-up/ Drop-off sites will be determined by the instructors and will be assigned after the first 3 weeks of class.
  • Most of the driving is done in May (after school) and/or the first 3 weeks after school dismisses for summer break. DO NOT schedule conflicts during this time. Driving instructors have many students and up to 150 hours of driving in May and June. Missing a drive could cause the student to fail to meet the criteria to pass drivers ed. Driving instructors will work around baseball/softball/swimming schedules if the student notifies their instructor within the first 3 weeks of class.
  • Do not schedule vacations during Drivers Ed. If you have already scheduled a vacation during the first 3 weeks of June, take Driver’s Ed next year.

2/21/26 20 minutes to Kwik Star & home with Mom

2/25/26 1.5 hours to Decorah & home with Grandpa
