LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to share some upcoming events happening in October at the middle school that we believe will have a positive impact on our students' experience.

Spirit Assembly - October 10

Mark your calendars for our Spirit Assembly on October 10! This event will be a celebration of school spirit and community, featuring performances, games, and opportunities for students to showcase their pride. The themes chosen by our Student Council align with the spirit week in our high school, highlighting the unity between our middle and high school students. Monday, October 7 is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Rhyme without Reason Day, Wednesday is Student/Teacher Swap, Thursday is 90’s Day and Friday is Color Day: 8th Blue, 7th, Yellow, and 6th, Green.

Great Apple Crunch - October 11

On October 11, we will be participating in the Great Apple Crunch. This event is part of a collaboration with our farm-to-school teacher, Laurie Pattington, focusing on promoting healthy eating and local agriculture. Students across both middle and high school will take a synchronized bite of an apple at a designated time to symbolize their commitment to wellness. Following this activity, Ms. Pattington has planned engaging activities centered around nutrition and the benefits of local produce.

Middle School Picture Day - Rescheduled to October 24

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, we have rescheduled Middle School Picture Day to October 24. We understand the importance of capturing these moments for you as parents or guardians; therefore appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this change. Additionally, there will be a makeup day scheduled for November 12 so that every student has an opportunity to have their picture taken.

The Middle School Play will be Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Auditions have begun.  Please stay tuned for more details.

These events play an essential role in fostering school spirit while promoting community engagement as well as health and well-being among all of our students.

Thank you for your continued support,

Melissa Addy

How can you help your child succeed in Middle School?

  • Help them set a daily schedule:  A routine will help your child build skills necessary for independence in areas such as chores, sleep habits, completing homework, and time management.
  • Reach out to the school when you have questions.  Emailing teachers can help you understand the school’s expectations for your child.
  • Use the Parent Portal through Schooltool.  If you do not have access, call Amy Porter in the MS Office.
  • Attend events held at the school.  There are many types of events at school from orientations to concerts to fundraisers.  The more opportunities you have to engage in your child’s life at school, the more you will get to know their circle of friends, teachers and interests.
  • Talk each day about school.  Instead of asking yes or no questions.  Ask questions that require more input, such as, “What topic did you cover today in __________class?”
  • Let the school know if your son or daughter is having a particularly difficult time.  It is helpful for the counseling staff and teachers to know that a student is struggling for any reason.  Laura Sullivan, our Middle School social worker,  Jane Manning, our Middle School counselor, or Hannah , our MS/HS psychologist are here to help in these types of situations.

Using the district’s homepage, click on Menu, then link on Families +,Schooltool Parent Portal. Your username is the email address on file with the district.

Please review your child’s census data for accuracy. If any of the information is not current, please call the Middle School at
