Dismantling Institutional Oppressions
Margaret A. Burnham, Caleb Gayle, and Donald Yacovone explore the ways in which racist ideology in the United States has been sustained by our institutions. From state-sanctioned racial violence during the Jim Crow era, to government involvement in dividing the marginalized people of the Creek Nation and Black Creeks, to the biases in American textbooks and teacher preparation, the panelists present new evidence and disclose untold stories of the faults of American history and its societal effects. Grace Talusan moderates the panel. Sponsored by Massachusetts Center for the Book, administrator of the Massachusetts Book Awards. Presenter: Margaret A. Burnham, Caleb Gayle, and Donald Yacovone Moderator: Grace Talusan

From the organizer: On March 22nd (6-9PM), I and a few author friends (Whitney Scharer Jenna Blum and Christopher Castellani) are hosting a one-of-a-kind event called Blaze-O-Rama. It's the very first *physical, non-virtual* event of A Mighty Blaze OK, so just WHAT is a Blaze-O-Rama? In short, it's a writing party. It's in a private space, part of the Beer Garden Trinktisch next to Belmont Books. There's going to be two amazing speakers, Grace Talusan and Calvin Hennick. There's going to be appetizers. And best of all....we're going to do this Never-Before-Seen hour long writing session, where if we collectively write enough (on our own project), everyone gets a FREE DRINK. Basically, it's the most productive artistic evening you've ever spent in a bar, with loads of time to also hang out and catch up with other amazing writers. (All levels and kinds of writers are welcome!!!) You can find out more about it here: blazewritersproject.com. Or just directly register here ($20 ticket includes apps and the drink and everything else!): bit.ly/blazeorama.
