semi means half.
A semicircle is a half circle,and a semiannual event happens every 6 months- half a year!
Semiformal means moderately formal; requiring a dinner jacket.
dis means away.
To dismiss a class is to send the students away, and to distract someone is to draw their attention away!
Distort means to twist out of shape.
Sym means together.
In a symphony orchestra, musicians play together, and when we have sympathy for people, we feel togetherness with them. Symmetry means things are balanced, with each side reflecting each other.
