What is Hospice Care?

​

  • Hospice care provides for terminally ill patients focusing on comfort in end of life care

​

  • Care emphasizes physical, emotional, and spiritual needs

  • Support for patients as well as family members

​

  • Emphasis on palliative care, which is specialized medical care for those with life-limiting conditions

​

  • Many have neurodegenerative diseases

​

What do we do as an org?

  • Go to assisted living facilities where residents are high-risk for neurodegenerative diseases and engage in non-clinical volunteering

​

  • Play games that stimulate their minds and keep them engaged

​

  • First hand experience to cognitive diseases

​

  • “Social Activity and Cognitive Decline in Older Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities:

A Cohort Study”

    • Found that residents who regularly engage in social activities had slower cognitive decline
    • Our visits make an impact

    • Weekly Service Sundays (1.5 hours, carpool included)
    • Priority for Clinical Volunteering
    • Research/Medical guest speakers
    • Mentor/mentee program

Our Mission:

To provide comfort, care, and compassion for those we serve and learn more about palliative care for underserved geriatric populations

Interested in Clinical Volunteering?

  • We are partnered with Haven Hospice, where you can clinically volunteer

​

    • In order to get Haven Hospice volunteering, we provide recommendations on volunteers

​

    • Become a member, gain experience in geriatrics, and we will recommend you for clinical volunteering if you want to apply!

​

    • You do need a car for clinical volunteering

    • Attend half of the services (~6) in a semester
    • Attend 2 additional events total (GBM/Social)
  • Eligible for prizes and member of the month promotions
  • Eligible to apply for executive board positions in the Spring
