Cross hatching shows the solid areas that were cut.

On the printed drawing, section lines should be about 1/16 to 1/8 inch apart.

Types of Sections
Full Section
Cutting plane goes straight through the complete part.
Half Section
Usually used for symmetrical parts such as cylinders.
Broken-Out Section
Revolved Section
Sometimes done with a break in the view, sometimes not.
Removed Section
Offset Section
Note: Don't show the section line edge as visible.
Aligned Section
Don't hatch ribs or webs. Sometimes it is more clear to hatch with a broader pattern. (Usually only do this if the feature disappears in section)
Be careful about aligning hatch pattern with visible lines!
