National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity

16 of 26

History of the Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE)

  • 1998: The NSA established the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE-IAE) program. Its primary focus was to promote information assurance education in U.S. universities and colleges. This initiative aimed to develop a pipeline of skilled professionals to protect the nation's information systems.
  • 2019: The CAE program underwent further updates to enhance the alignment between academia and industry needs. The revised criteria incorporated input from industry stakeholders, increased emphasis on hands-on learning, and encouraged institutions to establish strong partnerships with government agencies, industry, and other academic institutions.
