Important Terms

Quarter vs Semester

Semester is half the school year (18 weeks)

Semester grade goes on the transcript

Credit

Transcript unit is earned each semester (with a passing grade - A, B, C, D)

Elective

A course you choose because of your personal or career interests

Advanced Courses

  • Honors - Advanced (pace) curricula. (.025)
  • Dual Enrollment - College Credit earned through University of Nevada Reno or CSN (.050)
  • AP - Courses with college-level (.050) curricula and the potential to earn college credit

Each letter grade you earn at the end of the semester equals a certain point. To find your GPA you average the points on your report card.

Attendance and Denial of Credit

Denial of Credit

  • After 10 unexcused absences you have the potential to lose credit

  • Letters will go out each week

  • Parents will need to make an appointment for an appeal hearing in December and/or May to see if they are granted the credit

  • Potential restriction from extra-curricular activities and/or campus privileges including but not limited to prom, grad night, homecoming, athletic activities, performances, competitions, dances, parking privileges, etc.
