How Do Magnets React to Electromagnetism?

Believe it or not electric and magnetism is very related and are the the same in some ways. A magnet has a magnetic field. A conductor charged with electric currents can also produce a magnetic field which is called electromagnetism (more on this later). So I was curious and wanted to figure out how does a magnetic field from a magnetic react to electromagnetism.

Electromagnetism, science of charge and of the forces and fields associated with charge. Electricity and magnetism are two aspects of electromagnetism.

Magnetism is the force exerted by magnets when they attract or repel each other. Magnetism is caused by the motion of electric charges.

Simplified Definitions

Electromagnetism is a magnetic field created by an electrical current or charge. The field only remains while the current is active meaning that if the current is switched off the magnetic field disappears until it is turned back on again.

Magnetism is an attractive field that surrounds a magnet in different direction.

How does this information relate to my experiment?

My research relates to my experiment because the tesla coil makes electromagnetism and the magnet obviously has a magnetic field which is the reason why I researched these terms.

How a tesla coil works?

The power source is hooked up to the primary coil. The primary coil capacitor acts like a sponge and soaks up the charge. The primary coil itself must be able to withstand the massive charge and huge surges of current, so the coil is usually made out of copper, a good conductor of electricity. Eventually, the capacitor builds up so much charge that it breaks down the air resistance in the spark gap. Then, similar to squeezing out a soaked sponge, the current flows out of the capacitor down the primary coil and creates a magnetic field.

The massive amount of energy makes the magnetic field collapse quickly, and generates an electric current in the secondary coil. The voltage zipping through the air between the two coils creates sparks in the spark gap. The energy sloshes back and forth between the two coils several hundred times per second, and builds up in the secondary coil and capacitor. Eventually, the charge in the secondary capacitor gets so high that it breaks free in a spectacular burst of electric current.

Hypothesis

My theory is that the ark of the tesla coil will not be affected as much but the magnet will be attracted or repel the tesla coil. I believe this because the electromagnetism of the coil will just attract or repel the magnetism of the magnet. I also think that the magnet will

Increase the range of the coil’s ‘wireless energy’ by increasing the electromagnetism of the coil.

Experiment

Observations

Trial No. 1

I observe the arc fizzing slightly less when the closer I move the magnet next to it. The magnet is attracted to the tesla coil. The magnet seems to be increasing the range of the coils ‘wireless energy’.

Trial No. 2

Similar behavior as last test. The arch is displaying less activity then the last time.

Trial No. 3

The magnet is being attracted to the tesla coil. The arch begins to die down the closer the magnet is.

Biblical Application

Psalm 19:6 - His going forth is from the extremity of heaven, and his CIRCUIT to the other end of heaven: and no one shall be hidden from his heat. Luke 17:24 - For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part.

Theses 2 verses relate to my experiment because they have to do with a figure of lightning and electricity just like my experiment.

Conclusion

My theory was correct. The ark did show a slight reaction, as I had predicted, but overall the magnet and the coil showed attraction to the magnet.
