Vaccine Boosters

  • Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) met on August 30, 2021 (more data needed)
  • On September 1st, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a notice that they will hold their own Advisory Meeting to authorize FDA approval of  COVID boosters.  
  • Next scheduled ACIP meeting is October 20, 2021.

Boosters

  • All Marin County healthcare providers who offer vaccinations (e.g., flu, pneumovax, shingles) should provide eligible patients with COVID-19 booster vaccine when approved and recommended.
  • Public Health Goal: One month after CDC recommendation issued, wait times for booster appointments in MyTurn are less than 2 weeks for residents > 65 years old
  • Public Health planning to support efforts to vaccinated priority populations (e.g., older adults > 65 years old; low HPI community)

Pediatric Vaccines (Anticipated)

  • All Marin County healthcare providers who offer pediatric vaccinations should provide eligible patients with the COVID-19 initial vaccine series when approved and recommended.
  • Public Health Goal: 75% of newly eligible children (5 - 11) receive 1st dose within 1 month of FDA authorization / CDC recommendation
  • Anticipate ACIP / CDC recommendation for children 5 – 11 years old on Oct. 20th
  • Partnering with MCOE / Safeway and local schools to offer school-based vaccine clinics
  • Target October 30 Start Date for Weekend Super PODs
