Medium: Colored Pencil, white gel pen

Dimension: 12 x 18 inch

Time: 2019/06/05

In Class Assignment

This piece was made according to a topic I’ve discovered “Imagine if you had another part of you”. I chose to draw this pencil case because it serves as “another arm” of mine when I create my artwork, and how its functionality affects almost all aspects of my work.

Diversity In Architecture is a comparative study on Chinese and European ancient architectural styles and their origins. The work symbolizes traditional Chinese elements and rooftop structures, juxtaposing with Corinthian style columns and structures. The combination of the different elements shows an aesthetical harmony between eastern and western cultures.

“Residential Space - Retroactive”

Medium: Colored Pencil, Alcohol Marker, Fineliner, paint

Dimension: 16 in x 20 in

Time: 2022/04/22

Solo Work

This interior design is an attempt to create a retro-styled house with modern functionality. I want to challenge the status quo of interior design, where many designers tend to use monotone and grayscale colors. This design is an attempt to contradict the standards and the mainstream, using bold and vibrant colors to create a lively indoor space that includes modern facilities such as a home theatre, a central kitchen, theatric systems, and post-modern furnitures.

Medium: Alcohol Markers, watercolor, Colored Pencil, Pen

Dimension: 18 in x 14 in

Time: 2022/03/30

Solo Work

This entertainment space design was inspired by my father’s hotel business. The artwork represents a broad open space, with leisure facilities such as a bar, lounge chairs, dining area, and a grand piano. I applied lots of glass windows and partitions to allow sufficient sunlight into the space. It also incorporates a wooden structured roof, a very distinctive design element in the North Shore where I live.

“Metric Bonsai”

The Metric Bonsai puts a strong emphasis on synthesizing nature and geometry. It is designed in a way that could be replicated in a real-life scenario. The soil in the pot can be a potential garden space, while the tree trunk and the pot are the main components of the building. The branches and “Leaves” can be sub-areas suitable for residence or other purposes. The intention is to create an ecological living environment in the city mimicking the natural forms of trees and plants, which I used to see in my childhood.

Medium: Pencil, Pen, Fineliner, Alcohol Marker, charcoal

Dimension (left to right): 8 in x 9 in, 18 in x 12 in, 6 in x 12 in

Time: 2020/10/24

Class Assignment

The Sakura Chronicle is a series of drawings portraying the beautiful cherry blossoms in my neighborhood in Vancouver. It focuses firstly on the scope of a monochromatic cityscape, then into a street perspective, slowly closing up to a sublime sakura tree on the hill, where we focus on the form of the tree, the beauty of the color and the bloomed flowers on the tree. The faint yet elegant pink adds a sense of sadness within the short-lived beauty, since sakura symbolizes both birth and death, beauty and violence in our fleeting world.

Medium: Colored Pencil, Alcohol Marker, Gel pen, Paint, Fineliner

Dimension: 12 in x 18 in

Time: 2022/05/01

Radiant Night Sky was inspired by a camping trip to Whistler in Canada. The scenery is local to me and I felt like I wanted to incorporate something magical and wondrous into the environment that is very representative of where I grew up. The artwork is comprised of multiple mediums to create a diversified yet organized visual effect, where I experimented with different ways of shading and lighting.
