Food consumption by people:

  • 7.7 million tonnes per year, with 3.85 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables. According to Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) food consumption per person daily is 2.11 kg.
  • Local Population depends on subsistence farming while the urban population depends on local fresh produce and imports. Total import bill in 2020 was K2.8 billion. In 2021 the fresh produce import bill was K52.4 million (COVID 19 and Internal lock down)
