How the Online Program Works

mbxfoundation.org | summerschool@mbxfoundation.org

Online summer school is asynchronous and self-paced — your family chooses where, when, and how the work gets done.

1

Self-paced in Edmentum

Coursework lives in Edmentum and is available 24/7 on a computer, Chromebook, tablet, or phone.

2

Edmentum teachers support you

Credentialed teachers grade your work, give feedback, and answer subject-area questions.

3

~55 hours per semester

Plan on roughly 55 hours of work each semester — about 15–18 focused hours per week.

4

Finals are in person

Final exams are taken on the MCHS campus and count for 45% of your final grade.

Academic Integrity

mbxfoundation.org | summerschool@mbxfoundation.org

Edmentum shows three numbers. Knowing the difference keeps surprises off the transcript.

Do Your Own Work

Students are expected to do their own work.

AI Detection Software

EdOptions teachers use AI detection software on all written assignments.

MBX takes Ethics Policy violations very seriously, students may be required to take all tests in-person or be removed from the course with no credit and no refund if found in violation.

Activity Reports

EdOptions reports show all the time spent in the course to the minute for each day you do your work.

For Parents: Staying in the Loop

mbxfoundation.org | summerschool@mbxfoundation.org

GENIUS FOR FAMILIES

Edmentum's free parent portal allows you to monitor your student's progress all summer.

See course progress and grades anytime

Identify a slipping pace early

How you can help at home

1

Provide a quiet workspace

A consistent, distraction-free spot helps with focus.

2

Encourage & protect a daily study time

Build the habit early — the calendar fills fast.

3

Check the pacing/progress bar together

A quick weekly look keeps everyone informed.

4

Note the finals date

Staying on track with desired timelines requires planning.

Final Exams — In Person

mbxfoundation.org | summerschool@mbxfoundation.org

Online coursework ends with an in-person final on the MCHS campus. This is the one part that is never remote.

45%

of your final grade

The final exam carries major weight — prepare for it all semester.

Tuesday-Thursday

Session 1: 8:30-10:30 am

Session 2: 11:30-1:30 pm

*A test session MUST be requested 24 hours in advance using the Google Form sign up.

Academic integrity matters. Do your own work. An Ethics Policy violation requires the student to take all unit exams in person, not just the final — so keep every assessment honest.

On campus

at MCHS room 139

All final exams are taken in person on the Mira Costa High School campus.

Important Information

mbxfoundation.org | summerschool@mbxfoundation.org

1

Start strong on Day 1 - June 22nd

Log in, finish the welcome tutorial, and begin Unit 1 right away.

2

Make a Schedule

Daily momentum beats marathon weekends in a six-week sprint.

3

Whole letter grades

MBX uses whole letter grades only. (A, B, C, etc.) There are no +/- on grades.

4

Semesters will be paced for 3 weeks

Semester 1 June 22 - July 10

Semester 2 July 13 - July 30th (THURSDAY)

*S1 can be extended by 1 week

*S2 can be started early by 1 week

5

Ask for help early

Reach out at the first sign of confusion, not the night before finals.

6

Watch current vs. course grade

Keep finishing work so your course grade rises toward your current grade.
