Occasionally, science supplies will be needed as new units are introduced. We appreciate your support. Right now we need:

  • Empty toilet paper rolls
  • Empty flattened cereal boxes
  • Empty and rinsed 2 liter bottles

Thank you for the beginning of year donations to our third grade classrooms.

We suggest that families build a 45-60 minute (maximum) homework routine. This should include 20-30 minutes of nightly reading.

Homework is due on Fridays.

If your student consistently struggles with homework and/or takes long periods of time to complete the work, please contact your child’s teacher.

Please email your child’s teacher, prior to 12:00 noon, if your child has a change in transportation. Teachers can also be contacted through the Talking Points app. Please look for a confirmation response. If you do not get one, please call the front office.

Standardized Testing in 3rd Grade

mCLASS Reading is administered at the beginning, middle, and end of year.

Subtests:

Nonsense Word Fluency, Word Fluency, Oral Reading Fluency, Comprehension, and Vocabulary

Beginning of Grade Test (BOG)

The BOG is a multiple choice reading test modeled after the End of Year Test (EOG) and gives teachers baseline data in reading.

Standardized Testing in 3rd Grade

September: STAR Math is an adaptive math screener administered beginning, middle, and end of year.

October - The CogAt Test is the initial AIG qualifier.

NC Check-ins are given at the end of quarters, 1,2,& 3.

May

End of Grade Tests (EOG) cover the year’s materials for Reading and Math.

Explorers

The Explorers program is geared toward 3rd graders. This program is one of the first steps toward formally identifying students for the AIG program.

CogAt

The test of Cognitive Abilities is given to every 3rd grader in Wake County. It measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative and nonverbal questions.

It will be given in October. The 3rd grade team will send reminders as it approaches.

There will be a virtual meeting to discuss the CogAt more. Look for an invitation!
