Why is developmental math needed for a certain group of students?

Two Math Pathways
Math Index Score for Pathways
MATH 1302 College Algebra Pathway:
MATH 1321 QMR pathway:
Example
If a student has just graduated from high school with a high school GPA of 3.0 and ACT Math score 20, their Math Index score is 1100 at the time of admission, and they can be placed in MATH 1302 College Algebra. The High School GPA and Time Since High School Graduation will give some incentives.
If this student waits for 3 years, their Math Index will be less, just 900, and now the student needs to take a co-req class MATH 1302 + MATH 0102. The High School GPA and Time Since High School Graduation will give some incentives.

Co-Requisite Math Classes
Example: MATH 1302 + MATH 0102, MATH 1321+ MATH 0121.
Only some sections of MATH 1302 and 1321 are chosen for this purpose! If chosen, the lab sections will have the same section numbers
Example: MATH 1302-01 is paired with MATH 0102-01
To find all the pairs, go to the list of labs first. Then, use the section number of the lab to locate the gateway section of MATH 1302 or 1321
How can a student register for Co-Req Classes?MATH 1302/0102 or MATH 1321/0121
They should have the SAME section numbers:
MATH 1302-01 must go with MATH 0102-01, and
MATH 1321-990 must go with MATH 0121-990.
Each co-req class is actually two sections, consisting of the gateway stand alone class MATH 1302 (or MATH 1321) and a one-hour lab MATH 0102 (or MATH 0121).
*Note that if there is NOT a lab section corresponding to a stand alone class, it is NOT a co-requisite course.
How can we best place our students?
Registering for Co-Req Courses
The student cannot register for a different lab than the one linked to the gateway class
The student cannot register only for the gateway class
