Accessing Studio

Studio is a video hosting repository available in Canvas.

Access Studio through the Global Navigation icon.

This will show you all videos you have added to Studio.

Record directly in Studio, using your webcam, screen sharing, or both.

Add pre-recorded video files into Studio.

YouTube videos can also be added directly!

Webcam Capture

Uses ScreenCast-o-Matic to record a defined portion of your computer screen.

Only records from the webcam.

  • Does not have virtual background
  • Options for Mic and Webacm
  • Click Start Recording to begin
  • It will count down from 3
  • Click Finish when you are done
  • Title the video something you’ll remember
  • Click Save Media, or Start Over if you need to re-record

Screen Capture

  • You will have to download the Screen Recorder the first time you use it.
  • Then, you will click “Open” to work it.
  • The recorder will highlight the area of the screen that will be recorded.
  • You have options for screen, webcam, or both.
  • You have options for size, microphone, and computer audio.
  • Click “Rec” to begin recording.

  • Click Done when finished
  • Enter a descriptive title
  • Click Upload, unless you want to edit the video.
  • NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO EDIT THE VIDEO, DO NOT CLICK UPLOAD.

  • From “Screen Capture” videos
  • Click “Edit” to access Editing Tools
  • When finished, click Done.
  • Click Upload to add to Studio.

Tools

  • Cut - remove portions from the video
  • Copy - copy and paste section of the video
  • Hide - hide the cursor or the webcam
  • Insert - add new recording or video into existing recording
  • Narrate - add audio narration over the video
  • Overlay - add overlay to the video (including blur)
  • Replace - replace video or freeze frame
  • Speed - adjust the speed of the video
  • Transition - add transition to video
  • Volume - adjust volume of video

All of these features are free inside Studio!

However, it is only for videos recorded in Studio.

Rich Content Editor

  • Click the Studio icon to open the videos from your Studio account
  • Choose the video from the list you would like to embed�OR
  • Record or add a new video directly to the page
  • Click the “Search” icon to find the specific video if you have a good amount of videos.

  • Click the “plus” in a Module to add a link
  • Choose the “External Tool” option
  • Select “Studio”
  • Choose the video from the list
  • Choose whether to allow comments and/or download
  • Click “Add Item” to add to the Module

  • Add quizzes to videos
  • Add as an assignment into Canvas
  • Use for formative assessment!

  • See who has viewed your video and for how long
  • View whole class or individual students
  • Use as accountability, or even offer extra credit for viewing your videos!
  • Be sure you choose the right course from the drop down menu!

Captioning

  • Maintain ADA compliance for all instructional videos - recorded or added.
  • Note: these captions do not work for YouTube videos
  • Request in the language recorded (85% accuracy) or add your own captioning file
  • Edit and publish the captions for students to view
