3/6 Support Cells: Neuroglia 10
Location of Neuroglia | Name of Neuroglia | Characteristic/Function |
CNS | Astrocytes | |
CNS | Microglial | |
CNS | Ependymal | |
CNS | Oligodendrocytes | |
PNS | Schwann | |
PNS | Satellite | |
Copy this chart into your notebook and fill it out as you go through the next couple of slides.
1. Astrocytes - connect blood vessels to neurons
I connect to blood vessels
2. Microglial Cells - Immune function; digest debris, kills bacteria
3. Ependymal Cells - forms membranes around tissue
4. Oligodendrocytes - make myelin sheath that provides insulation around the axons
(found in the CNS)
5. Schwann cells: form the insulating myelin sheath around the neurons in the PNS (same function as oligodendrocytes, which are found in the CNS)
6. Satellite Cells
