When Can I apply for a Work permit?

You may apply for a work permit as soon as you have a place of employment who has provided you with an offer and can sign the “Intent to employ” form found at the lower portion of the application. (Please see next page)

Work Permit Completion Steps for Students

Section One: Complete all student information in this section. Name first and last, home phone, grade, home address, birth date, SSN (social security number!!), age, and student signature

Section Two: Complete your school information here. School address

Section Three: To be completed by your PARENTS!!

Section Four: To be completed by your EMPLOYER OF JOB!! They must complete the business information, phone number, supervisors name, business address, hours expected to work per week, duties, and sign their name

Section Five: To be completed by high school work permit staff member at Del Mar High School ONLY!

What’s Next?

  • Drop off the form at Room 4 or contact your counselor for information on how to send via email.
    • If student sends via email, they will still have to pick up their Work Permit paperwork in person to sign.
  • Work permits may be ready within one to two days. If it is ready a little earlier, you will be emailed on when it is ready to be picked up!
  • If we are on vacation, you will be notified when we return to school.
  • Come to room 4 (College and Career Center).
  • Keep in mind it will be returned back to you if it was not completed correctly!
  • Read over the sections before turning it in.

Checklist Requirement for CCC to approve a Work Permit

  • Student must have :
    • A minimum 2.0 GPA
    • Good attendance → verified by CCC specialist
      • If the student does not meet both criteria; student will receive additional information on what to do next in order to work towards getting work permit approval
  • Work requirements:
    • Employer site duties assigned to studies must be in compliance with Child Labor Laws
    • Work hours will also need to be in compliance with Child Labor Laws

Section Seven: To be completed and signed by the student. I will need your first and last name! Do not forget to date the document!

Common questions

  • Can my work permit be revoked once I have one?
    • Yes, a work permit can be revoked for a number of reasons
  • Do I need to request a new work permit if I switch jobs?
    • Yes, you will need to fill out a new Intent of employment form
  • If my permit expires and I am still underage do I need to renew my permit if I am still at the same job?
    • Yes, you will need to renew your work permit if it has expired even if you are still at the same job.
