Intro Program

Intro Program:

USA Rugby is bringing back all star 15s competition for women, focusing on the U23 age group!

USA Rugby Head Coach Rob Cain:

“This is an exciting and important opportunity for both the players and pathways in 2022. As a women’s national team staff, these games present a great window to identify and confirm both the talent that we are looking for and the potential we see in them as individuals. This age group has a great deal of potential and is one that we need to develop and give consistent opportunities and time to perform. I can’t wait to see the matches unfold.”

“The goal of USA Rugby’s National U23 Women’s All Star competition is to identify and develop athletes who start playing rugby after high school or who mature as athletes later as well as provide more competition experience for all players in this age group. Currently, our talent ID process has focused on players attending universities with highly competitive rugby programs. These players typically have already been identified at the U18 level for inclusion in HP Pathway programs. With this new competition we seek to expand the reach of our talent ID and development process and empower interested parties to complete this work at the regional level. In addition, the tournament will serve as a selection venue for USA Rugby’s U23 Women’s team, who will compete against equivalent Canadian teams in July 2022.” - USA Rugby

Program funding is under review between the TRU and MARFU. There may be opportunities for players to bring in sponsorship or donations to offset the potential player costs.

Support

What is organized, multi-faceted support? How can support be organized?

We Assign roles for all 14 players when one teammate is in possession.

Support is the responsibility of all players not carrying the Ball forward. It must be a reaction in response to the Ball carrier and needs to be predictable and consistent.

The Ball carrier’s decision making becomes simplified. To focus on the defensive environment confronting them.

Having a consistent system of support for all 14 other players creates options for the Ball carrier.

The Ball Carrier is called the Queen
