Why PBL?
One group was taught social studies content using traditional methods - lectures, readings, worksheets, quizzes, and tests.
The other group was taught the same content using real-world, project-based, collaborative and individual work with self-, peer-, and teacher assessments.
Which group do you think did better on assessments?
The group taught with traditional methods or the group taught through real-world, process-based, project-based methods?
Initially . . .
They both did equally well.
One year later, without notification, students took the same test.
The Results?
This is why we are implementing project-based learning at DKIES.
“When kids leave our classroom doors, do they see their world as a playground for ideas and learning, that there are problems to be solved, discoveries to be made, and people to impact?”
Alvin Lin
Complex Science Resource Teacher
