We have wrapped up our learning of a literal great heart. Next week we will begin reading a text called Love That Dog. In this text students will analyze the main character, Jack, and how he changes. This book is written in prose. We will study poems, their structure, and organization. Students will learn to summarize poems, such as Robert Frost’s “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”.
Wit and Wisdom Parent letters: Grade 4 Grado 4
Students will wrap up our study of animal adaptations. We will review external structures and their functions, how animals respond to sensory information, and how animals have adapted to changes in their environment.
We completed our week of data collection and analysis. Students will now start a week of multiplicative comparison. In this section, students learn to compare quantities in terms of multiplication. In a multiplicative comparison, the underlying question is “how many times as many?” (In contrast, in an additive comparison, the question is "how many more (or less)?”

Infinite Campus Information
As you may have heard, beginning with the 2025-26 school year the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is transitioning all school systems, including Buncombe County Schools, to a new student information system, NCSIS powered by Infinite Campus.
The new NCSIS provides additional features to help you monitor your student's educational progress, along with a mobile-friendly experience that makes it easier to see everything on the go. Campus Parent, the Infinite Campus web portal and mobile app, gives parents and guardians real-time access to grades, attendance, assignments, and schedules. The portal and app connect parent to teacher, teacher to student, and student to parent.
You can sign up for your parent portal using your student’s UID number (your student may know it as their “lunch number”) from this link on the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction website. Choose “Buncombe County Schools” from the drop down menu and follow the instructions to set up your portal. After you’ve created your account, it may take a few days for your student’s schedule to populate, as schools finalize classes in the week ahead.
We have also posted a resource page on the BCS website with videos and quick start guides to help you learn more about the features of Infinite Campus. Click here to view it now.
Please reach out to your student’s school with any questions.
