  • Water covers much of this region, especially during the rainy months.

  • Burial mounds found along Florida’s western coast show that indians lived in the region about 12,000 years ago.

Landmark-The Florida Keys

  • The keys are a chain of small islands that extends into the Gulf of Mexico.
  • People enjoy swimming, fishing, and water-skiing in the inland and coastal waters.

Arkansas Landmark

  • Millions of tourists visit Arkansas every year. Its clear lakes and streams attract many vacationers who enjoy boating and fishing. Arkansas is famous for its spring waters, which many people believe help cure certain ailments.

Landmark-The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is half 1,000,000 acres on the borders of Tennessee and North Carolina. The reason that they are called the Great Smoky Mountains is because there is a lot of fog.

Food

In the Southeast region there is a big fishing industry and seafood is very popular. Some of the seafoods that they eat are:

  • Fish of course
  • Shrimp and more
  • Farming is also big in the Southeast
  • The famous Tabasco was first made in Louisiana
  • Did you know that most of the oranges that you eat are made in Florida?

Mammoth cave is the biggest cave in the Southeast region.
