Frida Kahlo
She was born in 1907 in Mexico.
She was known for her surreal and very personal artworks. The majority of her paintings and drawings were self portraits.
Frida Kahlo painted her self portraits to include the natural world around her. She would put plants and animals in the background. She also used her paintings to express her feelings.
Sometimes she included images and ideas from her dreams.
Art that includes images from dreams is called surrealism.
Many of her works reflected Frida’s cultural heritage and she often painted herself in traditional Mexican clothing.
