CLSS- INTRODUCTION
LUKE 4:43 Jesus said “ I must preach the good
news of the Kingdom of God to the other towns also,
because that is why I was sent.”
What is the good news? It is the Gospel, the
message of salvation that no other can give. It is
Jesus Christ.
Why Life in the Spirit Seminar important?
Hosea 4:6= “ my people are destroyed from lack of
knowledge.”
CHARISMATIC- It comes from 5 Greek words
1. Charism- means Gift
2. Charisma- means Gifted
3. Chara- means Joy of the Lord
4. Chare- means Grace
5. Chrisma- means Anointed
So CHARISMATIC- IS A GROUP OF PERSON
THAT POSSESSED THE 5 GREEK WORDS
ABOVED.
WHAT IS THE MESSAGE OF THE GOOD NEWS?
IT IS THE FOUR BASIC TRUTHS IN THE BIBLE.
1. CREATION- GOD’S PLAN: GOD LOVES US AND WANTS US TO LIVE A FULL AND HAPPY LIFE.
2. THE FALL- OUR PROBLEM: SIN, WE WERE SEPARATED FROM GOD AND COULD NOT LIVE A FULL LIFE.
3. INCARNATION- GOD’S ANSWER: JESUS CHRIST. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE US AND GIVE US THE POWER TO LIVE THIS LIFE, TO KNOW GOD’S LOVE AND SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS.
4. REDEMPTION- OUR RESPONSE: ACCEPTANCE: WE MUST ACCEPT THAT JESUS CHRIST AS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR IN ORDER TO HAVE POWER TO LIVE A NEW LIFE.
THERE ARE SEVEN TOPICS IN CLSS:
1- GOD’S LOVE: unconditional, eternal,
everlasting… AGAPE
But HUMAN LOVE - Reciprocal, conditional,
temporary-I Love you if….
2- SALVATION: is Not only means going to
heaven, but it is a whole new way of life on earth as
well as enable man to participate in God’s plan, and
to have personal relationship with God and to live a
full and happy life.
3- NEW LIFE: Means Because God loves us, He
does not only want us to know Him, but want us to
have an intimate personal relationship with him.”
New Life= is the fundamental teaching in our
Christian life.
It means New Birth or Regeneration:
John 3:3 “..I tell you the truth, no one can see the
kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
Why? Because life is Spirit- it means to change our
inner heart, or Spiritual Re-birth.
4- RECEIVING GOD’S GIFT:
1. Prophecy: Inspired preaching to build up faith within the community
2. Practical Service: The exercise of necessary services/ ministries that promote the growth of the Church
3. Teaching: To provide the faithful with right teaching to understand the faith
4. Encouragement or Exhortation: To promote ethical teaching and practice within the community
5. Almsgiving: Generously given to support the Church and her ministries
6. Position of Authority: To conscientiously and humbly provide resources and leadership in serve to the faith community
7. Acts of Mercy:Bringing relief to the unfortunate with a cheerfulness of spirit that relieves the recipient of embarrassment through understanding that performing the service on their behalf is a privilege of love.
5- BAPTISM IN THE SPIRIT: According to the official teaching of the Catholic Church, when Catholics are confirmed they receive the "special Outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost". That is to say, the Holy Spirit is already given to the believer in the baptism in water and confirmation.
The effects of confirmation causes the "full Outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost". The Holy Spirit has already awakened the faith, the light, in the baptism in water. Thus the Holy Spirit is the source and giver of all holiness.
There is a growing community of "Charismatic Renewal Catholics" who believe that there is a further experience of empowerment with the Holy Spirit. As stated "baptism in the Spirit is not a sacrament, but it is related to a sacrament…to the sacraments of Christian initiation. The baptism in the Spirit makes real and in a way renews Christian initiation" Emphasis of the event is on the release of existing spiritual gifts already given to the individual through baptism in water and confirmation.
6- GROWTH: Acts 19:17-19 17 And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled. 18 Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. 19 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.
7- TRANSFORMATION:
2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
THINGS WE DO WHEN WE RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT AS CHARISMATIC MEMBERS?
PRAISING: JOSHUA 6:15-20 15 On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times. 16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the people, "Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! 17 The city and all that is in it are to be devoted [a] to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute [b] and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent. 18 But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it. 19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury." 20 When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city.
CLAPPING OF HANDS: PSALM 47:1 1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.
DANCING IN THE LORD: PSALM 149:3 3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp.
SHOUTING: PSALM 149:6 6 May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands,
RAISING OF HANDS:
PSALM 141:2 2 May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
PSALM 63:5 5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
EXODUS 17: 8-13 8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." 10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
CLOSING OF EYES WHILE PRAYING:
MATHEW 6:4-5 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
LOVE OFFERING OR GIVING:
LUKE 6:38 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
1COR. 16:2 2On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
2 COR. 9:6-8 6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
TITHING:
MALACHI 3:7-11 7 Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD Almighty. "But you ask, 'How are we to return?' 8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty.
LEVITICUS 27:30 30 " 'A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
DEUT. 14:22 22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.
1COR.8:1-8 1Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge.[a] Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. 3But the man who loves God is known by God. 4So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. 5For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), 6yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. 7But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
& 12 12When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
