  • Create a thriving community where members are seen as equity champions and beacons of this work
  • Identify bright spots across the district
  • See ways that equity work is infused in schools
  • Create a working model of youth-adult partnership
  • Work with youth to follow through with Racial Justice Academy recommendations

What is one favorite part of your job?

  • Working with families

What does youth leadership mean to you?

  • Giving youth voice to make an impact + tools
  • Listening to and empowering youth leaders
  • Making space for students to life their voices + ideas
  • Consistently gathering and responding to feedback from young people
  • Young people being empowered to challenge the status quo + question systems + question adults
  • Students having input on curriculum and disciplinary practices
  • HEALING, LISTENING AND IMAGINATION Letting go of solo power and moving towards shared partnership

What would an ideal model of youth leadership look like in your building? (Dream big!)

  • A group that could act as a bridge between adults, students and families
  • Consistent opportunities to build relationships and receive feedback on experiences in Special Ed support & interventions
  • Students determining programming, partnerships, clubs
  • teachers/admin welcoming the youth leadership process to happen..meaning clear referrals w/outcomes communicated
  • Students in respected positions of power
  • creating/giving structured time/space for students to connect and help each other problem solve when harm has been done

What SRJA recommendations have you been able to incorporate into your own work?

  • Working on keeping support systems safe for students
  • Would like to start a student advisory group, but I don’t know where to start
  • Looking at how harm can be repaired in new ways
  • Responded differently when a student told me about a racist incident
