Why Choose Us

​

• We offer our counselling students an opportunity to compete their practicum and internship requirements that complement their academic training and course work.

​

• In addition to the standard components of an internship, we also offer students a robust 16-week training program that focuses on skills, tools, policies, and overall professional development.

After Internship

​

• Following internship completion, students may be offered a paid position to work in a Fellowship position for an additional year with continued supervision and training in private practice.

​

• Following this two-year internship program, a counsellor may be offered a paid position to work at Crossroads Collective as a fully licensed registered therapist.

​

What we ask

​

• We ask that you intern with us for one full year, which entails completing your hours as well as time to take your exam and finish coursework (depending on your program)

​

• Once your hours/program are complete, we assist you with applying for your license by supplying reference letters and support through that process

​

Why this is essential for Crossroads

​

• This is essential because we are offering you a clinical and private practice internship experience.

• The additional 4 months is to train you on business practices in addition to continue supporting you with your clinical supervision.
• At the end of the one-year term, if you are successful you may be offered another one-year Paid Fellowship year with additional supervision, specialized training, and leadership opportunities.

More about Internship – The Nuts and Bolts

​

• Crossroads provides an intensive roadmap that starts with Week 1 and ends with Week 16
• It is required of each intern to work through the weekly program and then bring their understandings and findings to the weekly supervision session.
• As the weekly program progresses interns will build not only the skills that develop in individual therapy but also the skills that are needed for operating in the business environment.

- ethics

- trauma

- neurodiversity

- gender affirming care

- domestic violence

- business acumen including sales, marketing, blog writing, social media, and other business training

• We also offer speciality training in Play Therapy and High Conflict Dynamics

(CCLI) - What Makes Us Different

• Hands on Experience
• Many Masters level counselling programs are now being offered online but few integrate ongoing live supervision and peer consultation.
• Many Play Therapy programs also don’t offer the practical component of supervisors reviewing audio and video recordings of actual live client sessions
• Our students are trained in the business acumen that is required when working in Group Practices, Private Practice or non-related Agency work

CCLI - What Makes Us Different (Cont.)

• Supervision and Intensive support
• Our program also offers additional support, such as peer supervision and our supervisors offering feedback to video and audio recordings of client sessions.
• Various times are offered each week for Peer Supervision sessions
• During these sessions, presentations on various topics are often conducted by the supervisor or by their peers and additional real-time learning can occur
• Members of our Educational Program can also present their own learnings, articles, or presentations and share their own learning and specialization areas.

• When offered an internship, you begin with onboarding in advance of the time you see clients

​

• Further, interns will attend an orientation weekend followed by self-learning modules to complete at your own time before starting to see clients

​

Our Placements

​

• Internship placements are for students enrolled in Graduate or Masters programs
• They exist for students who require direct client, group and professional hours to complete their program and apply for their registration

Internship Expectations

​

• At Crossroads Collective, the are some required expectations of interns.
• We ask that if you are applying to either our Kelowna or Langley location that you live within a 20 km radius.
• We offer approximately 12-15 of “shifts” per week in person

Internship Expectations (Continued)

​

• The times offered are weekdays and weekends for four-hour shifts which are usually one 9 am to 1 pm shift, one 1 pm to 5 pm shift, and one 5 pm to 9 pm shift.
• One of your three weekly shifts will likely fall on a weekend.

​

Internship Supervision Requirements

​

• We ask that you attend supervision on Thursdays from 4 pm to 5:30 pm.
• Further, if you are participating in the Play Therapy Program working with children you are required to attend the supervision on Friday mornings from 9 am to 10:30 am.
• These supervision sessions are mandatory.
• They are on zoom.

​

• Interns are also asked to attend a quarterly virtual meeting where we have a team meeting for the whole organization.
• It typically falls on Mondays at 7 pm for one hour and is on zoom.

​

​

Group Processing Opportunity

​

• We offer a group processing and training to participate twice a year on Sundays between 12 pm and 2 pm. It is valuable experience to learn how to run groups.
• These hours are indirect hours for your degree.

​

The Cost of Internship

​

• Our cohort placements are September and January annually with the current placements for September 2024 with the current initial cost being $500 per intern.
• This cost holds your spot and covers a portion of our marketing costs to advertise you on our website and social media.
• Further, you will be linked with our strategic partners in the community.

​

After Internship -

The Fellowship Position (Paid Position)

​

• Interns that complete their practicum may be offered a position in our Fellowship program.
• Darlene Mathews is our lead supervisor.
• You will also have access to other supervisors on staff including Lisa Moore and Marianne Cottingham.
• During fellowship, you will typically continue to see Darlene once a month while also seeing another supervisor once per month.

The Fellowship Position (Paid Position)

​

• Continued weekly group supervision with further specialized skills training.
• An educational grant to take further training in a specialized area of interest.

​

Start Date and Hours

​

• The position for internships starts in either January, May or September of each year.
• You will work 3 days per week in person with a minimum of 12 hours per week.
• We typically ask for one daytime shift, one afternoon/evening shift and one weekend shift, unless other arrangements have been approved.
• Internships encompass one year from your start date, regardless of when you complete your direct hours.

• Should you receive your RCC or CCC during your fellowship, a meeting can be requested to discuss moving to a registered therapist once you have completed your license.
• There will be a discussion with the clinical team to discuss your competence and ability to move forward into private practice as a full associate for Crossroads.
• Feedback will be provided and either a plan will be in put in place to have you continue in the Fellowship program until the one-year mark if more training is deemed necessary.

• If the clinical team feels you are competent, a two- year contract will be offered to you either at this time or at the end of your one-year fellowship.
• If a contract is offered to you, it is the expectation that you will continue to receive twice a month supervision with a Clinical Supervisors at YOUR OWN COST.

​

Fellowship Details

​

• Mandatory monthly supervision with 3 different supervisors on staff on a rotational basis paid for by Crossroads Collective.
• During these sessions we may require the following of you:
• Facilitate the session in the absence of a supervisor (holidays, sick days).
• Opportunity to present and teach new interns on various topics.

3. An education grant to take further training in a specialize area of interest valued at $100.00 for each month of fellowship you attend. This will be reimbursed to you at the end of your fellowship program. Talk to Lisa regarding this.

3. Further extensive training in Play Therapy and High Conflict Separation and Divorce Therapy leading to a certificate is offered.

​

Rate of Pay for the Fellowship Program

​

• Rate of pay will be $50.00 per hour paid only for sessions attended by clients (not for the hours of the scheduled shift)
• This does not include paid or unpaid no shows.
• The $50.00 is paid for client session types invoiced over $80.00.
• All other session types that are completed under $80 will not be paid - these are considered additional training hours that can be used towards registration and learning.

Policies and Procedures

​

• You will be bound by and will faithfully observe and abide by all the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of Crossroads Collective.

• These can be brought to your attention and you should be reasonably aware of this.
• Crossroads Collective reserves the right to change, amend, delete, alter, or add to its rules, regulations, policies and procedures from time to time at its sole discretion.

Confidentiality

​

• It is a fundamental term and condition of your internship with Crossroads that you must sign and fully comply with all your obligations under included in our Counselling Expectations Document.

​

Termination of the Fellowship

​

• We hope that your internship with Crossroads is long and mutually rewardin! We cannot guarantee your fellowship for any specific term or duration.
• Your fellowship can be terminated as follows:

​

• You may terminate your fellowship at any time during your fellowship period of one year, with a minimum two months advance notice to Crossroads of your resignation date

​

2. Notice is always required for any form of termination because ethical client care means prioritizing our clients and never surprising them with any transitions.

3. Offboarding procedures detailed in the Policy and Procedures manual as well as the counselling expectations document will apply, so it is vital that you be aware of your obligations.

• Crossroads may terminate your fellowship without cause, at any time during your fellowship period if Crossroads finds you to not be suitable for ongoing fellowship.

​

• To accept an internship with Crossroads would will have to sign and return the Acceptance indicating that you are aware of all the terms and conditions.

​

• Further extensive training in Play Therapy and High Conflict Separation and Divorce leading t a certificate in either program which includes both education and practical training in our specialized playrooms and high conflict therapy rooms.
• Opportunities to present and teach new interns various topics of interest to you while developing yourself and leading others.

​

Play Therapy Program – More information

​

• Instruction will include 50% psychoeducational lectures and 50% break out sessions to practice various techniques.
• There will be a supervisor in attendance in addition to facilitators to facilitate the break out sessions.
• We will also have live demonstrations with children/therapists interacting.
• There will be homework given after each instructional day with readings and short quiz.
• There will be an exam at the end of the course which will include 30 questions and must have a grade of 80% to pass.
