    • CAPTAIN of the New Wave has put on 4 annual conferences for parents and professionals since 2017. One (out of the 4) included a keynote speaker.

    • CAPTAIN of the New Wave will create four workgroups who will support the planning for the CAPTAIN of the New Wave annual conference.
  • Secondary Objective (2)
    • CAPTAIN of the New Wave will create four workgroups, each responsible for developing an informational presentation on an EBP targeted for families.
  • Expected Level of Outcome (3)
    • CAPTAIN of the New Wave will hold an annual conference for families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other development disabilities. The conference will have 4 different EBPs options for families to choose to attend. The conference will make available interpretation in Spanish and Khmer.

Operational Definitions-Regional Goals

  • Family Support Groups: Family support groups are community-based organizations/services that assist and support parents in their role as caregivers.

  • Dissemination: Provide the infographic “Information about Evidence-Based Practices for Families of Children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and Other Developmental Disabilities” to family support groups by doing the following:

      • Connect with the leader/organizer of the family support group.
      • Share the mission and vision of CAPTAIN with leader/organizer. Discuss the infographic and ask if they would be willing to disseminate to families within support group.
      • Make any/all of the following available after dissemination:

        • Do a presentation during a scheduled meeting.
        • Offer a 1 hour “Office Hour” Zoom session for families to join to ask questions.
        • Provide contact information of a cadre member to allow families to reach out individually with questions.
