To the right is the syllabus. This class will cover most topics taught in Algebra 2 H1 taught in school.

What you should have:

  • Pencil
  • Scrap paper
  • For later classes, graph paper.
  • A place to record your homework (or something to do it on)
  • Graphing calculator/desmos

Learn to solve the solution to a system of equations using elimination, substitution, and graphing.

3

Objective:

4 of 10

Date

System of Equations: A set of 2 or more equations with the same variables that are solved for at the same time

Ex. y=9x-3; y=8x+5

It can be solved in 3 ways:

  • Elimination
  • Substitution
  • Graphing

It will have 3 different type of outcomes (linear speaking):

  • 1 solution
  • 0 solutions
  • Infinite solutions

Rule of thumb: If there are X amount of variables, it must have at least X amount of equations. If this is not true, then the system of equations is unsolvable (doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a solution).

Systems of inequalities: Graphing

Graph the inequalities like if it were equations:

3y+6≤2x

2y-15>x

The intersecting parts is your solution.

9 of 10

Systems of inequalities: Algebraically

3y+6≤2x

2y-15>x

You would combine the two inequalities after isolating y to the left:

y≤2x/3-2

y>x/2+15/2

So we get

x/2+15/2<y≤2x/3-2
