Vision

Saline Rowing Team takes as its VISION the desire to produce successful rowers. Successful Rowers are physically fit, mentally tough, competitive, and positively bonded with their teammates and their fellow competitors.

Mission

The mission of Saline Rowing takes upon itself to offer high school training at the highest level of the sport in order to reach peak FITness, to demonstrate GRIT by being adaptable to weather conditions and overcoming the mental challenges of difficult workouts, to exhibit consistent improvement within COMPETITION and to demonstrate strong team BONDS by respecting and including others who are going through similar challenges.

Goals

FIT = Show improvement in endurance annually on 2K and 6K tests.

Show increased strength each winter by increasing Watts per Kilo score.

GRIT = Be adaptable to weather conditions with a positive attitude.

Be mentally strong enough to handle tough workouts. Stay at a consistent power without stopping.

Be mentally prepared to adapt to new challenges.

Goals

COMPETITIVE = Show improvement on the water in 3 minute miles and Around the Island time. Also show a decrease in time at spring regattas of 1500 meters.

BONDED = Show shared appreciation for the work that all rowers do, both on and off the water.

Show a shared sense of responsibility for preparing for practice and preparing for regattas.

Show that everyone is included by not having separate clicks nor individuals singled out.

Bonded with all teammates by feeling supported, encouraged, welcomed and invited.

Code of Conduct - Coach Fiske

    • Curfew:: Before school and competition 10:30 PM, otherwise 1:00 AM
    • Alcohol/drug policies
    • Must attend 3 periods of school to participate
    • If athlete is going to miss a practice they must email the head coach, direct assistant coach managing their practice, and attach their parent to the email. This should be sent as soon as individual is aware a practice will be missed preferably before noon.
    • Athletes cannot drive themselves to competition
    • Grade checks = 2 Ds or 1 E = ineligible
    • Absences = 3 unexcused equals missing a regatta
    • Line-ups are set by erg scores, seat racing, technique and attitude

    • Saline Area Schools has the following guidelines for submitting reimbursements:
      • Sales Tax is not reimbursed
      • All receipts oriented in the same direction in one file
      • Only reimbursed items on receipts submitted - do not mix with personal purchases
      • Several local stores have W-9’s, when presented, sales tax not charged
      • SAS will not create a W-9 for Costco

  • Break even fundraising needs to be ~$8,500
    • Current fundraising target / budget is $4,000
  • Rowing is a very expensive sport - The team needs ~$10K fundraising per season to insure there are adequate funds for any contingency / emergency and to slowly grow our balance for new or refurbished equipment purchases / replacements
  • Current Balance as of 5 February = $28,040.86
  • Generous in-kind donations have helped - Boat Trailer Towing, Food Trailer Towing, Food items / Meals
  • Monetary Donations & Personal Fundraiser in the Fall were very beneficial
  • Board & Coaches are closely scrutinizing expenses / budgeting conservatively

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising

  • The next few slides are examples of last year’s fundraisers as well as this springs fundraising events.
  • The fundraising goal for fall 2023 was $10,000 and the team was able to complete their goal. This springs goal is $4,000.
  • There will also be opportunities to help work the SAS sport concession stands. The team earns 75% of the concession sales.
  • It’s very important for all rowers and family members to participate in fundraising in order to keep the team running.
  • Fall and Spring Craft Shows - It’s MANDATORY that ALL rowers attend both shows at the designated times to help load and unload carts. Those who are not able to attend will need to talk to the coaches & coordinators.

Rent-A-Rower

Organizations that support our club include:

  • Saline Summerfest - needs the largest support
  • Community business owners from Carrigan Cafe and Mancino’s and Oscar’s
  • Superior Stables in Superior Township
  • Saline community homeowners who need yard work done

Email invites sent through sign up genius - parents and siblings can help too

We need 2-3 more parent volunteers to help monitor the job sites in order to keep this awesome program going

Transportation (Carpooling) - Scott

  • Need transportation form for every rower indicating their intentions
  • All rowers MUST ride in assigned cars unless they get prior approval from Coach Fiske or Coach Molly
  • Absent drivers need to line up other rides for riders ASAP and notify coaches via GroupMe
  • Absent riders need to notify drivers and coaches via GroupMe ASAP
  • Riders give $75 reimbursement to drivers to cover gas, etc
  • On water practice days, parents can pick up rowers from the circle at 6:45pm

  • Orders are placed through Dexter Print and Embroidery.
  • All orders will be picked up and delivered to the team as a group. You don’t need to pay for shipping to home unless that is your preference.
