What is AI?

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a type of computer technology that can perform tasks that usually require human intelligence.

There are different types of AI – machine learning, deep learning, large language models, and generative AI.

Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) are the focus of this session.

Purpose:

The purpose of this slide is to define Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a clear and concise way and briefly introduce different types of AI to spark curiosity.

Webwise is the Irish Internet Safety Awareness Centre. They provide information, advice and resources for schools, families and young people on online safety and digital citizenship. This prompt is effective because:

It mentions the assistance needed (brainstorming ideas).

It uses simple language and avoids technical jargon.

Tips for writing prompts

Clarity: Be clear and concise in your instructions. The more specific you are, the better the AI can understand your request.
Provide context: Give the AI some background information about what you want it to do.
Use keywords: Include relevant keywords that guide the AI in the right direction.

Here are some tips to remember when writing a prompt:

When is it safe to use Chat GPT?

If the answer is Yes then users will have to make additional choices. This is because AI tools have a reputation for making things up and not producing factual information. If users do not have the expertise to verify content generated by AI then it is best not to use it.

ChatGPT, like any AI tool, can sometimes generate inaccurate information. It's essential to fact-check and critically evaluate the information it provides.

It's important to remember that AI tools should not replace critical thinking or independent research. They should be used as supplements to enhance the learning process.
