Review:

What’s a hackathon?

  • A hackathon is pretty much a coding marathon (see what they did there?)
  • For coders and others involved in product design (content creators, graphic designers, product managers, UX designers, etc)
  • Goal is to build, create, produce, and deliver a product in a short amount of time

Mini-Hackathon: New Year’s project

  • Today, we’ll do a mini-hackathon! Using everything you’ve learned so far, you’ll each build a New Year’s project!
  • What if I don’t finish?!
    • That’s ok! That’s how hackathons work! You keep working til the end
  • What if I finish early?!
    • Keep spicing it up! See if you can figure out how to change the CSS listed in the spicy instructions
    • If enough folks finish early, we’ll invite you to present your work
  • You’ll have the rest of class to work independently
    • Volunteers will be in your breakout rooms to answer questions
    • There will be additional empty breakout rooms if you prefer to discuss 1-1

Your New Year’s web page should include...

  • An updated title with your name
  • A header to tell the user what your page is about
  • A rockin’ external font for that header
  • 3 lists, each styled with a different color (hex codes!) & external font
    • What you’ll miss from 2020
    • What you WON’T miss from 2020
    • What you’re looking forward to in 2021
  • At least 1 image
  • At least 1 anchor tag
  • If you want to get fancy/spicy...
    • See if you can add a background color for your whole page (again - use hex codes!)
    • See if you can figure out how to center the header on your page...
  • Throw reality out the window! Get creative!
    • Not looking forward to ANYTHING in 2021?? Make a list of what you WISH would happen instead!

Standup!

  • Like a team huddle
  • Short and sweet!
  • Originally done standing do people would talk faster/say less & everyone could go back to sitting 🙃

Our standup will be done through padlet...

  1. Link your project
