We also want to take this opportunity to clear up some common misconceptions when it comes to who we are.

We are not the Texas Workforce Commission also known as TWC. We often get confused with them because one of the requirements to receive unemployment benefits is that you register for work through Workintexas, the job search engine we use to assist with job search needs. TWC is the state agency who handles unemployment benefits. We at WFS Capital Area handle reemployment. It’s important that you know that we do not have access to their system or determine eligibility.

Additionally, we are not the Health and Human Services also known as HHS. They are another state agency. We are also often confused with them because this organization refers some of their SNAP and TANF recipients to participate in our workshops and/or orientations. But again, just like with TWC, we do not have access to their system or determine eligibility.

Lastly, we are not a staffing agency. Staffing agencies charge a fee for their services and our services are always completely free.

Next I’ll be covering our services. First, is our General services from our centers. Free access to computers, phones, copy and fax machines. Please take note that these services are available for your job search or school needs only. If you are using these services for any other reason not listed, you will be asked to stop and/or log off from the computers. For example, this can be something like you logging in to your social media accounts, playing online games, etc.

You can also take advantage of our workshops if you are needing assistance in topics such as,re-employment, resume writing, interviewing tips, effective job search, and such as this one which is specifically tailored to career guidance.

We also have interview rooms available upon request. These interview rooms can help you prepare for an interview or in conducting virtual interviews for a more private and professional setting. You have probably noticed that virtual interviews are more common now than ever and sometimes conducting these from home may be difficult or you may not have the proper equipment to do so. So,if you are interested in this service, all you have to do is call the center closest to you to make the reservation.

We also provide job search assistance using the state job search engine workintexas, fidelity bonding which provides insurance to guarantee job honesty for anyone with Any police record, records of arrest or probation, Poor credit history, bankruptcy, Dishonorable discharge from the military, Substance abuse history and anyone who cannot secure bonding through the regular commercial system. And we also have Services for Individuals with Disabilities.

Additionally, we can assist working or in-school parents with Child Care assistance. & if you are interested in learning more about this service & requirements, you will find their contact information in the padlet at the end of the presentation.

We also have training assistance for short term trainings from Targeted occupations and industries which usually result in certifications or an associate's degree. And we’d like to take this opportunity to mention that a part of this process is that anyone interested in receiving assistance will be required to complete suitability assessments in english.

We can also assist with on the job training, registered apprenticeships, and if you qualify, you can also receive support services for your job search or training needs such as assistance with gas cards for transportation, tolls, uniforms, technology needs, rent and /or utilities, certification test fees, and possible stipends. And before we move on we'd like to mention that if you are interested in training assistance, we recommend that you set up a pre-screening appointment with a career counselor, to help us determine the funding source best suited to meet your needs. Also, know that funding is available for eligible residents. So if you reside outside of Travis county, please visit your local workforce solutions office for additional options.
