The plans of the Thematic DCCs

Note: Due to the differences between the three domains, each Thematic DCC is taking a different approach to how to use the capacity.

The plans of the Thematic DCCs: SSH

What is the main topic within interoperability we at the TDCC-SSH will focus on:

  • Addressing fragmented data practices and silos and a lack of awareness around tools and infrastructures

Which roles we plan to hire to achieve this?

  • SSH Ontology & Metadata Coordinator, 48 months @ 0,8 FTE
  • 4 x Interoperability Mission Specialists, 18 months @ 0,8 FTE
  • Possibility to hire additional domain specific experts, short term

What we would like to hear from YOU in the interactive exercise later:

  • Do you see under-served communities or collections that could be unlocked through making them interoperable?
  • What good practice already exists? What are you already doing?

25 of 47

The plans of the Thematic DCCs: NES

What is the main topic within interoperability we at the TDCC-NES will focus on:

  • Our ontology experts will work on discipline specific ontologies through joint projects with research groups

Which roles we plan to hire to achieve this?

  • 0,8 fte ontology engineer
  • 0,8 fte ontology engineer

What we would like to hear from YOU in the interactive exercise later:

  • What information would you like from us to locate potential interest at your institution?
  • What are your local plans for ontologies?
  • Who can be a contact person for us?

26 of 47

The plans of the Thematic DCCs: LSH

What is the main topic within interoperability we at the TDCC-LSH will focus on:

  • Make data resources across the broader LSH domain interoperable in a collective research data workflow assembly.

Which roles we plan to hire to achieve this? (3,5 Years)

  • 1 fte Metadata/semantic specialist
  • 1 fte Bioinformatician/technical specialist

What we would like to hear from YOU in the interactive exercise later:

  • What are your interoperability plans (metadata/ontology schemas, technical alignment of data management workflow systems, etc.) and how to best collaborate (workshops)?
  • How to best employ current experiences, workflows and standards from different LSH initiatives?

Challenge: Currently, researchers within the Dutch Life Sciences and Health (LSH) domain have a hard time to find, access, combine and reuse data resources relevant to their research.

Goal: is to make data resources across the broader LSH domain interoperable in a collective research data workflow assembly

Project: Focus on improving the situation by enhancing the FAIRness of existing data collections and research workflows from important research initiatives across the Dutch LSH research field by bundling experiences while building on international standards.

Who: Hire a metadata/semantic specialist and a bioinformatician/technical specialist in the TDCC-LSH team to work with communities.

Plan:

  • Work towards alignment of existing research (data) initiatives and help implement interoperable LSH-specific metadata/ontology schemas.
  • Drive technical alignment of data management workflow systems across the broader LSH field.
  • Steps towards interoperability of datasets and tools among research initiatives.
  • Strengthen alignment by organising workshops, tuned with other TDCC-teams.

Time for an update

  • Are these topics still relevant?
  • What are current activities on these topics (internal or in collaboration with other DCCs)?
  • If no activity on a topic, why not? (e.g. no priority, high complexity, …)
  • Should new topics be added?
