psychometric approach – inference incomplete induction (conclusions cannot be inferred from all the data – jump between facts and conclusions) – correct administration and choice of test is required

clinical approach – on the contrary, supplementing information with data from psychometric instruments

The concept of measurement in psychology: measurement is part of psychodiagnostic activity (psychometrics), it is the measurement of psychological phenomena (registration of observed behavior). The goal of psychometrics is the construction and verification of psychodiagnostic methods. Before any psychodiagnostic method can be used, it must go through the processes of construction, validation, and standardization (allowing us to consider which method to functionally use for which problem).

  • Urbánek (2009): the problem is that there is no designated control body that would supervise the use of the tools to prevent their incorrect use or even abuse if an unqualified user works with the psychodiagnostic tool. The correct use of psychodiagnostics is part of ethical codes adopted by professional associations of psychological application areas, but they are not legally binding.
