Special Note About Instruction, Operations, and Mask Wearing (Indoors)

  • There are times when teachers need their masks off to properly instruct in reading, literacy, and specific instructional times. This is especially important at the elementary level and for some of the special needs students and/or students who require special modifications for learning. When students are learning to read, seeing the formation of sounds/letters from their teachers is important (i.e., literacy instruction such as phonemic awareness and phonics, small group instruction when there is 6 feet of distance between the teacher and the students, etc). Therefore, teachers (elementary in particular) will have the flexibility to remove their masks when delivering lessons that warrant it.
  • Speech/Language - Masks will not be required during individual student Speech and Language Articulation Therapy sessions.
  • Sometimes with any grade level teachers - When the teacher is instructing and there is 6 feet of distance between the teacher and the students.
  • Lunch/Snack - While actively eating

COVID-19 Testing/Proof of Vaccination

  • DCS will not require proof of vaccination for students and/or staff.
  • DCS is not planning on conducting weekly COVID testing for students and staff.*
  • PLEASE NOTE: When positive COVID-19 cases/close contacts are identified, there is a process in place for students/staff who contract COVID and/or are close contacts that could involve providing proof of vaccination.

*There may be circumstances where testing is mandated. For example, MHSAA has required COVID testing at certain points in the year.
