How do we search for books using the card catalog?
We search by author, title, keyword or series or subject
Melvil Dewey created the system we use to organize books in the library.
Fiction books have an E or F above the first three letters of the author’s last name.
Examples: E F FIC
BRE DIC PIL
NONFICTION BOOK ARE ORGANIZED BY TOPICS AND ASSIGNED A NUMBER.
EXAMPLES: 597 TRE or 398.2 GRI
Fiction books are arranged by author’s last name. These books are in alphabetical order on the shelves.
The call number of a fiction book would look like this:
