Social Determinants of Health

As mentioned by many students in class today, the presentation given by Dr. Flavia was one of the best presentations given on social determinants of health that I have seen. It was really great and empowering getting to see a perspective that came from pure generosity and as opposed to a presentation that was given for pure academia purposes. This semester, I have talked about social determinants of health regarding race, class, and social factors more than I ever have before. As a woman of black decent, I have taken these discussions and this knowledge very seriously, and I now view life with a completely different perspective. One of the major things that surprised, especially when going over statistics in my Health Care in America class, was the extent to which African Americans and blacks are at risk of

James: My first prototype with ROM 3 managed a 7.38 recharge interval. However payload was lowest with only 480.

Susan: Values in the 400s are good. Based on the internal consultants requests, 450 was the high value that she wanted

Hannah: Ok I had the electric actuator and we kept what we found was as ROM went up the agility and payload went up but the recharge interval went down.

Fernando: The series elastic actuator maximized safety and payload. However it did not meet the consultant requests for had recharge interval and cost

Susan: If 7.38 is an acceptable level for the rest of our team, that design worked as well as our other top models.

Fernando: Some experiences as part of my life lead me to believe that there is certainly a correlation between race, class & social factors on determinants on human health & well-being. While I did grow up in a traditional family in the suburbs, I went to high school with plenty of inner city kids from low-income families.

James: I agree with you Fernando that all races should be treated equally, however this is not the reality of our society. Discrimination and prejudice is still very much alive and it definitely affects peoples' well-being. …It is impossible to go to better schools, have a better house, or get a better job if you do not have the skills or resources available to you to make those changes.
