Area of Triangles and Parallelograms
Students will:
• develop the formula for the area of a triangle, using parallelograms, and then apply it.
AP Book 6.2 pp. 108–109
• Either pair of parallel sides can be chosen as the bases.
• The height is the distance between the bases as measured along a line perpendicular to the bases.
Area = base × height
See p. P-28 for details.
Review area of a parallelogram.
See p. P-29 for details.
Hint: If one side runs along a grid line, it's very convenient to use that side as the base.
Review:
Mark the base and height of this triangle.
Exercises:
The height is given in the triangle. Name the base.
