Although campaign was succesful, it covered only Ukrainian Wikipedia, so in 2021, for the first time, we have launched Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month in cooperating with Ukrainian institute as a contest any Wikipedian from any country could join

Over 800 Wikipedia articles were created and improved in 44 language editions, as well as roughly 700 Wikidata items.More than 170 participants joined from all over the world.
We have heard very positive thoughts on the contest, so it was decided to make campaign the following 2022 year. However, week after campaign started, disaster struck in the form of Russian invasion. Despite this, we decided to carry on with campaign and thus became the only cultural project assosiated with MFA and Ukrainian institute that was still running
Results nevertheless, exceded all our expectations, with thousands of articles being written and edited. Overall, we had great support from international Wikimedia community
After overwhelming success, which, unfortunately, was due to very tragic events, we have returned in year 2023 to continue improving the coverage of Ukrainian culture on Wikipedia
Although at the time, when this presentation was being made, this year’s campaign is still underway, we can share preliminar results: around 1000 articles were made or improved by 180 participants. Despite number of articles written is looking modest comparing to the last year, 2023’s campaign have recorded contribution in 66 (!) languages, new record for us
The CEE communities were one of the most active ones during all years of the contest with countless articles written in almost all language editions of Central and Eastern Europe. 💛
WMUA will continue our goal of promoting free knowledge and we’ll hope for the best in the future!
Thank you very much!Щиро дякуємо!
