About The Department
Learning the ‘3Rs’ – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic in a formal setting is one of the many aspects of education; there is so much to it. It has the power to affect social change on a Global scale. With this conviction, the Department of Education of Raiganj Surendranath Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1986 with the capacity of 28 students. At first, the department took great care to provide services for the unprivileged section of the District as well as students from the other districts. At its initial stage Education only as a general course was introduced and later in the year 1996 the Honours course was started . At present the Department has two full-time faculty and three SACTs .
The initial aim of the Department was to prepare a qualified and a competent learners who could contribute to the welfare of the society and the educational sector as well. Over the years, the Department of Education has produced numerous distinguished educators, researchers and policymakers who have made significant contributions in the field of education. Alumni of this department have held positions of leadership in educational institutions, government sectors etc. helping to shape the educational landscape for better.
